There are a bunch of republicans, or more precisely anti monarchists, who are campaigning to get rid of the hereditary head of state. Now there is some merit to their campaign, it is not clear that the institution of head of state should be hereditary  On the other hand if you seek to dismantle the state there is clearly no requirement for a head of state, elected, appointed or inherited.

Unfortunately, the ambition of Republic seems to extend no further than changing the fairy on the top of the Christmas tree, their argument seems to be having an election to decide your next constitutional ruler is better waste of time and resources than the existing system.

For anarchists it is simple – no state – no head of state.
